|PHIVOLCS-DOST Conducts REDAS training for NEDA-RDCS and 15 Philippine Provinces|

From January 6 to 11, 2013, PHIVOLCS conducted a second round of REDAS training for the National Economic and Development Authority-regional Development Council Staff (NEDA-RDCS) including the 15 Philippine provinces. These provinces are Zambales, Bataan, Zamboanga del Sur, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Masbate, Palawan, Romblon, Mindoro Occidental, Kalinga, Nueva and Camarines Sur. ·The training was held at Crowne Plaza hotel and was attended by 60 participants from the 15 provinces and seven NEDA regional offices.
The latest REDAS software version which is 2.7d was distributed. The modules that were taught were Seismic Hazard Assessment, relational database using SQlite and mysql, viewing spatial component using Spatialite and the Exposure Database Module (EDM). ·Speakers and facilitators were Director Renato U. Solidum, Jr., Deputy Director and REDAS Developer Bartolome C. Bautista, Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Ishmael C. Narag, Angelito G. Lanuza, Henremagne Penarubia, Rhommel N. Grutas, Vilma C. Hernandez, Johnlery Deximo, Erickson Fajiculay and Norberto Salili.
The REDAS Software is a free software developed by PHIVOLCS-DOST. It can simulate earthquake hazard scenarios using specific earthquakes. ·Upon the request of the NEDA training first batch held in 2010, the seismic hazard simulation results can now be converted to Quantum GIS. ·Also, the new database structure of REDAS which uses a relational database was taught. The EDM module was also introduced to encourage the provincial and regional offices to develop their own exposure database which can be used for many related tasks in their locality including risk assessment, disaster preparedness, tax mapping, and etc.
