A special session on how to mainstream hazard assessment into landuse planning is also included in the training package.  In this session, local planners are asked to display their multi-hazard maps using REDAS, then to evaluate their existing landuse and start thinking of possible solutions if needed. The proposed solutions are shared with their colleagues who also are stimulated into thinking of possible solutions not only for their respective municipalities but for the province as a whole.  The whole REDAS training module includes lectures, hands-on practices, field surveys, workshops and presentations. PHIVOLCS trainors and facilitators included Bartolome C. Bautista, the software developer as well as Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Ishmael C. Narag,  Angelito G Lanuza, Janila Deocampo, Joan Salcedo, Myleen Enriquez, Vilma C. Hernandez, Roberto B. Tiglao and Melquiades Figueroa. Director Renato U. Solidum, Jr, provides basic lectures about hazards. During the period July to December 2009, trainings were conducted for Surigao del Sur, Bohol, Pampanga, Cavite, Albay, Iloilo City, Dinagat, Northern Samar and Laguna. The municipality of Infanta and Irosin joined the trainings, too. Government agencies which also attended are regional offices of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, DPWH, NEDA, HLURB and OCD. NGOs which have attended are PDRN and Smart as well as one local media.  In summary, the training was conducted for eight provinces or around 73 municipalities including one city. There had been 428 participants and 310 REDAS licenses had been issued.  The following are the summary of the trainings for 2009:

Surigao del Sur

The training for Surigao del Sur was held from June 22-26, 2009  in Davao City.  A total of 70 participants from 10 municipalities attended the training.  A total of 50 REDAS license keys were issued.  The province of Dinagat also joined the training.

Bohol:

The Province of Bohol consists of 47 municipalities and 1 city.  There were two training batches held for the province of Bohol.  The first one was held from July 6 to 10, 2009.  The first training was attended by 40 participants which were representatives from the Bohol Provincial Government Office, Provincial and Municipal Planning Offices, Provincial and Municipal Deputized Coordinators, Regional Offices of Civil Defense, NEDA VII, HLURB VII as well as the Philippine Army, PNP, DPWH, PHIVOLCS Tagbilaran Station, and the READY PMO.  This batch was attended by 13 municipalities.  A total of 24 REDAS license keys were issued to the first batch users.  Meanwhile, the second batch was held from August 3 to 7, 2009.  This batch was attended by 38 participants.  A total of 36 REDAS license keys were issued to this batch bringing the total of REDAS licenses issued for Bohol to 60 (24 for the first batch and 36 for the second batch).

Cavite:

The Cavite REDAS training was held on July 27-31 and was attended by 54 participants. These participants came from the Provincial Government Office, Provincial and Municipal Planning Offices, Provincial and Municipal Deputized Coordinators, CDCC, Regional Offices of Civil Defense, NEDA, and also from the PHIVOLCS Tagaytay Station.  A total of 41 license keys was issued to the participants. 

Pampanga:

The REDAS training for the Pampanga province was conducted from August 17 to 21, 2009.  A total of 73 participants from PDCC, PPDO, PEO as well as planners, MDAOs, engineers and disaster action officers from 20 LGUs attended the training. There were also participants from PHIVOLCS Pinatubi Volcano Observatory, PDRN, OCD3, NEDA3 and MGB.  A total of 43 REDAS license keys was issued. 

Albay

A total of 81 participants attended the REDAS training for Albay province where a perfect attendance was recorded when all its 18 cities and municipalities participated.  Aside from the LGUs, the PPDO, OCD Region V, HLURB V, APSEMO, Irosin LGU and a local media participated in the training. Support was provided by the Provincial Government as well as by CIRCA.  A total of 55 REDAS license keys was issued during the training which was held in Legazpi City from October 5-9, 2009..

Dinagat

A follow up training was conducted for Dinagat province.  It was held at PHIVOLCS office in Quezon City. Seven  municipalities as well as the PDCC and DPWH Dinagat attended the training. A total of six REDAS license keys was issued.

Laguna

The REDAS training for Laguna province was held at Calamba City from October 19-23, 2009.  A total of 11 LGU participants as well as from OCD IVA, NEDA IVA, UNDP, Infanta, PHIVOLCS Lucban and MGB Central office attended the training.  A total of 20 REDAS license keys was issued,

Iloilo City

The Iloilo City training was conducted upon the request of the city mayor of Iloilo. It was held on November 23-27, 2009 at Iloilo City.  A total of30 participants from the mayor's office, City crisis disaster management office, OCD VI, city health office, city planning office, city social welfare department, city engineering office, city assessor's office, city environment and natural resources office, NEDA VI, Smart, PHIVOLCS Kalibo, PHIVOLCS Roxas City participated in the training.

Northern Samar

Specific requests came from some Northern Samar municipalities to undergo a REDAS training. Due to time constraint, only a two-day REDAS orientation course could be done focusing only on some key REDAS features.  The orientation course was held at PHIVOLCS office in Quezon City on December 10-11, 2009.  The municipalities of San Vicente, Rosario, Victoria and San Isidro attended the orientation course. Earlier, the municipality of Mapanas joined the Iloilo City training.

Presidential Management Staff

The Presidential Management Staff (PMS) office requested for a REDAS training and managed to join the Dinagat batch held on October 26-30, 2009.  Six PMS staffs attended the training.Five license keys were issued.
