| PHIVOLCS Provides REDAS Software andTrainings to Local Government Units |

A special session on how to mainstream hazard assessment into landuse planning is also included in the training package. In this session, local planners are asked to display their multi-hazard maps using REDAS, then to evaluate their existing landuse and start thinking of possible solutions if needed. The proposed solutions are shared with their colleagues who also are stimulated into thinking of possible solutions not only for their respective municipalities but for the province as a whole. The whole REDAS training module includes lectures, hands-on practices, field surveys, workshops and presentations. PHIVOLCS trainors and facilitators included Bartolome C. Bautista, the software developer as well as Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Ishmael C. Narag, Angelito G Lanuza, Janila Deocampo, Joan Salcedo, Myleen Enriquez, Vilma C. Hernandez, Roberto B. Tiglao and Melquiades Figueroa. Director Renato U. Solidum, Jr, provides basic lectures about hazards. During the period July to December 2009, trainings were conducted for Surigao del Sur, Bohol, Pampanga, Cavite, Albay, Iloilo City, Dinagat, Northern Samar and Laguna. The municipality of Infanta and Irosin joined the trainings, too. Government agencies which also attended are regional offices of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, DPWH, NEDA, HLURB and OCD. NGOs which have attended are PDRN and Smart as well as one local media. In summary, the training was conducted for eight provinces or around 73 municipalities including one city. There had been 428 participants and 310 REDAS licenses had been issued. The following are the summary of the trainings for 2009:
Surigao del Sur
The training for Surigao del Sur was held from June 22-26, 2009 in
The Province of Bohol consists of 47 municipalities and 1 city. There were two training batches held for the
The Cavite REDAS training was held on July 27-31 and was attended by 54 participants. These participants came from the Provincial Government Office, Provincial and Municipal Planning Offices, Provincial and Municipal Deputized Coordinators, CDCC, Regional Offices of Civil Defense, NEDA, and also from the PHIVOLCS Tagaytay Station. A total of 41 license keys was issued to the participants.
Pampanga:
The REDAS training for the Pampanga province was conducted from August 17 to 21, 2009. A total of 73 participants from PDCC, PPDO, PEO as well as planners, MDAOs, engineers and disaster action officers from 20 LGUs attended the training. There were also participants from PHIVOLCS Pinatubi Volcano Observatory, PDRN, OCD3, NEDA3 and MGB. A total of 43 REDAS license keys was issued.
Albay
A total of 81 participants attended the REDAS training for Albay province where a perfect attendance was recorded when all its 18 cities and municipalities participated. Aside from the LGUs, the PPDO, OCD Region V, HLURB V, APSEMO, Irosin LGU and a local media participated in the training. Support was provided by the Provincial Government as well as by CIRCA. Specific requests came from some
Presidential Management Staff
The Presidential Management Staff (PMS) office requested for a REDAS training and managed to join the Dinagat batch held on October 26-30, 2009. Six PMS staffs attended the training.Five license keys were issued.
