PHIVOLCS conducted REDAS trainings for the provinces of Aklan and Biliran for the period June and July 22-27,2023, respectively. The Aklan training was held at Casa Pilar Beach Resort, Malay, Aklan while the Biliran batch was held at Agta Beach resort, Almeria, Biliran. A total of 64 participants attended the Aklan batch and 57 license keys were issued. Participants came from the Antique municipalities of Numancia, Malinao, Madalag, Nabas, Balete, Batan, Malay, Kalibo (capital), Altavas, Ibajay, Lezo, Banga,Tangalan, New Washington, Buruanga and Libacao. There were also participants from the provincial offices of Assessors, AKENRO, PGO, PPDO, PEO, PDRRMO. Guest LGUs from Batangas City, Jose Panganiban (Camarines Norte) and Lubang (Mindoro Occidental) also attended. For Biliran, a total of 45 participants attended from the Biliran municipalities of Almeria, Naval, Kawayan, Cabucgayan, Naval (capital) and Culaba as well as guest LGUs from Mulanay (Quezon), Sebaste (Antique) and Capoocan (Leyte). There were also participants from regional offices of OCD, DILG, NEDA, DOST as well as from provincial offices of DPWH, PEPDMO, PIO, PPDO, OPAS, DepED, PSWDO and Biliran Provincial Hospital. A total of 48 license keys were issued. PHIVOLCS is advocating the use of REDAS as a tool for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into the local development planning process. The curriculum taught the two batches included Seismic Hazard Assessment, relational database using SQLite, putting spatial component in the database using Spatialite, use of Quantum GIS and exposure database building.
