Province of Pangasinan LGUs trains on REDAS version 2.9 PDF Print

Six-day training on "Mainstreaming of Disaster Risk Reduction into the Local Development Planning Process, Contingency Planning, and Emergency Preparedness through the Provision and Use of the REDAS Software" for the province of Pangasinan was conducted from August 22 to 27, 2016. The training was held at The President Hotel - Annex Building, Lingayen, Pangasinan. The goal of this training is to familiarize the participants with the capability of the REDAS Software, especially the modules which are designed to be used for risk assessment.

A total of 47 participants attended the training.  Forty-one of them from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Pangasinan, two from DPWH NIR, two from UN OCHA, one from DPWH NOED2, and one from MMSU. The participants were provided with REDAS version 2.9 with a total of 42 REDAS software license keys were issued during the said event.

The training consists of lectures and workshop/hands-on activities. The program covered - introduction of PHIVOLCS, installation and orientation of the basic features of REDAS Software, lectures on hazards and basic map reading. The succeeding days of the training covered lectures in Building Risk Database, Earthquake Risk Assessment, use of SQLite as a Relational and Spatial Database System, and Seismic Hazard Assessment. In addition, software such as Exposure Database Module (EDM), SQLite and Quantum GIS, and the EDM and MyTracks in Android devices were installed.

The use the EDM in Android Devices for conducting building surveys and different earthquake risk assessment methodologies and computations were taught to the participants, as well as identifying building earthquake damage levels for conducting earthquake risk assessment.

Bartolome C. Bautista, Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Angelito G. Lanuza, Julius M. Galdiano, Johnlery P. Deximo, Ruffy R. Villanueva,  Dave Andrei V. Rivera, Greggue Ann Lyza T. Castro, Sharon Juliet M. Arruejo (PAGASA), Clint Drexel M. Ongue, and Joana C. UmbaƱa were the training speakers and facilitators.
