|PHIVOLCS Conducts REDAS Training for Makati City|

PHIVOLCS conducted a six-day training entitled “Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction into the Local Development Planning Process, Contingency Planning and Emergency Preparedness through the Use of the REDAS Software” for Makati City from September 26 – October 1, 2016 . It was held at Makati Palace Hotel, Makati City. The goal of the training was to provide and familiarize the participants with the capabilities of the REDAS software especially the modules which are designed to be used for risk assessment.
There was a total of 27 participants during the training from the following offices: Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and Urban Development Department (UDD), Department of Environmental Services (DES), Office of the City Building Official (OBO), Ospital ng Makati, Assessor’s Department, Department of Education, Economic Enterprise Management Office (EEMO), Health Emergency Management Services (MHD-HEMS), Liga ng mga Barangay, Makati Cooperative Development Office (MCDO), Makati Social Welfare Development (MSWD) and Public Employment Office (PESO).The participants were provided with the latest version of REDAS (2.9a) and a total of 27 REDAS software license keys was issued during the said event.
The topics included basic REDAS installation and orientation on the basic features of REDAS Software, as well as lectures on hazards and basic map reading. Other topics included Building Risk Database, Earthquake Risk Assessment, the use of SQLite as a Relational and Spatial Database System, and Seismic Hazard Assessment. In addition, software such as Exposure Database Module (EDM), SQLite and Quantum GIS, and the EDM and MyTracks in Android devices were also installed during the training. The participants were taught how to use the EDM in Android Devices for conducting building survey. Different earthquake risk assessment methodologies and computations were also taught in the training, as well as identifying building earthquake damage levels for conducting earthquake risk assessment.
