Text Box: Ceremonial Pressing of the button
Three thousand students of the Malabon National High School (MNHS) performed the “Duck, Cover and Hold” procedure and vacated their school buildings to go to their evacuation area during the earthquake drill simultaneously held nationwide on 18 October 2007 at 9 in the morning.  The demonstration drill at MNHS was graced by national and local officials namely: Ernesto G. Carolina, Department of National Defense Undersecretary for Philippine Defense Reform; Dr Anthony Golez, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Deputy Administrator; Dr Bartolome C. Bautista, Deputy Director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) – Department of Science and Technology (DOST); Dr Teresita G. Domalanta, Regional Director of the Department of Education (DepED) – NCR; and Malabon City Vice Mayor Arnold Vicencio.

Once again, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) members particularly PHIVOLCS-DOST, OCD, DepED, Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and the Local Government Unit of Malabon City collaborated in the conduct of the drill to educate both the students and teachers on what to do during and after an earthquake. The Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) – Incident Command System (ICS) simulation exercise further tested the school’s and other Rescue groups’ (e.g. Malabon METRO, PNRC, Army Reserved Command – ARESCOM) response capabilities when disaster strikes after a damaging quake.
