Mayon Volcano Bulletin

12 September 2006

8:00 AM

Mayon Volcano’s (13.2576°N, 123.6856°E) activity during the past 24 hours was dominated by 253 tremor episodes associated with lava chunks detaching from the summit crater and intermittent lava flow at the southeast flank of the volcano. No volcanic earthquake however, was recorded. The Sulfur Dioxide emission rate from the crater was maintained at 1,500 tonnes per day. Steaming activity from the volcano’s summit was moderate with steam plume drifting east-northeast to northeast.

Alert Level 3 is now in effect which means that the new Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) of 7 kilometers covering the southeast sector and the normal 6 kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone for all other areas around the volcano should remain off-limits.
