Mayon Volcano Bulletin

13 September 2006

8:00 AM

Eight (8) volcanic earthquakes and 108 tremor episodes were detected at Mayon Volcano (13.2576’N, 123.6856’E) during the past 24 hours.  The decrease in the number of tremors is associated with the continuing decrease in the perceived rate of lava extrusion from the summit crater.  The Sulfur Dioxide emission rate of the volcanic plume remained at around 1500 tonnes/day.  Steaming activity from the volcano’s summit was moderate with white steam plumes drifting west-southwest to southwest.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano which means that the new Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) of 7 kilometers from the summit crater covering the southeast sector and the normal 6 kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) for all other areas around the volcano should remain off-limits
