The new Bulusan Volcano Observatory in Cabid-an, Sorsogon City

Seismic processing units at BVO, Cabid-an

The old Bulusan Volcano Observatory (BVO)  was established in 1980 at San Benon, Irosin on a site donated by the Mateo family. At present, the towering coconut trees and tall vegetation at the middle and upper slopes of the volcano deter visual observation. The site at San Benon is not also ideal for setting up telemetry system. To enhance and improve methods of eruption prediction at Bulusan Volcano, the Department of Agriculture donated a parcel of land in the premises of Sorsogon Dairy Farm Research Outreach Station, Bgy Cabid-an, Sorsogon, Sorsogon and became the site of Bulusan’s Cabid-an Volcano Observatory. The construction began in 2004. The volcano observatory  serves as the central monitoring station for Bulusan Volcano and a Science House for visitors and the science community in the area.
