In response to the 08 June 2026 Mw7.8 Offshore Sarangani Earthquake, DOST-PHIVOLCS deployed its Quick Response Team (QRT) to the affected areas from 9 to 19 June 2026 to conduct aerial survey, field investigations, geologic impacts and hazard assessments, structural damage and intensity surveys, and aftershocks monitoring. Five temporary seismic stations were installed to improve continuous aftershock monitoring. Coordination and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) dissemination for the local government units (LGUs) and residents in the affected areas was also conducted. The team, together with DENR-MGB XII, also assisted the LGUs in assessing impending hazards in communities affected by landslides.
The QRT was split into six sub-teams for geologic impacts, building damage surveys, earthquake-induced landslide impact assessment, instrumentation, intensity survey, and aftershock monitoring. They were composed of geologists, engineers, and social scientists.
By the end of their survey, DOST-PHIVOLCS QRT assessed the following:
- coastal uplift: 35 sites
- tsunami: 52 coastal areas
- liquefaction: 127 sites
- building damage: 471 structures
- Earthquake-induced landslide: 223 sites
In addition, they visited five (5) provinces, two (2) independent cities, 21 municipalities, and 110 barangays affected by this earthquake.
