Quantitative Lahar Impact and Loss Assessment under Changing Land Use and Climate Scenarios Project (QLAP)
Contract Duration:
February – June 2021 (can be renewed if performance is at least satisfactory)
Job description:
- Participates in the conduct of volcano research
- Conducts field data gathering including geologic mapping, sampling, monitoring of river channel, morphology using drone and kinematic surveys
- Conducts laboratory processing and analysis of outcrop samples
- Conducts processing drone and kinematic data and generate orthophoto images and digital elevation models (DEMs)
- Conducts collection and processing of remote sensing and GIS data for land cover analysis
- Conduct collection and collation of primary and secondary data
- Conduct risk mapping activities
- Conduct activities related to social dimension of volcanic hazards and risk
- Acquires rainfall and other hydrological data
- Writes technical report related to the project
- Prepares project-related administrative papers
- Attends project related internal and external meetings
- Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time
Educational background
Graduate of BS Geology or any related courses are encouraged to apply
Required skills and qualities
- Basic background in Geology, Geomorphology, Stratigraphy, Geochemistry, and Petrology/ Petrography
- Close attention to details
- With field mapping skills
- Strong background in GIS (preferably ArcGIS) and processing satellite imagery
- With professional license or relevant certification
- Can work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills
