Philippine Volcano Hazard Research and Assessment (PVHRA) Project
Contract Duration:
February – June 2021 (can be renewed if performance is at least satisfactory)
Job description:
• Provides assistance in field data gathering such as monitoring of river channel morphology using drone and kinematic surveys, among others
• Assists in processing drone and kinematic data and generate orthophoto images and digital elevation models (DEMs)
• Assists in the acquisition of rainfall and other hydrological data, communication with LGUs for lahar monitoring activities
• Conducts collection, compilation and digitization of primary and secondary data related to qualitative and quantitative volcanic hazards research and assessment
• Assists in the processing of hazard and exposure input information for the threat assessment, compilation of codes and perform model runs for quantitative modeling activities
• Performs preliminary interpretation of qualitative hazards zones of assigned volcano/es
• Prepares project related administrative papers
• Writes technical report related to the project
• Attends project related internal and external engagements/trainings/ meetings
• Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time,especially during times of emergencies
Educational background
• Graduate of BS Geology or any related courses are encouraged to apply
Required skills and qualities
• Basic background in Geology, Geomorphology, Stratigraphy, Geochemistry, and Petrology/ Petrography
• Close attention to details
• With field mapping skills
• Background in GIS (preferably ArcGIS)
• With professional license or relevant certification
• Basic Technical Report Writing
• Can work with minimal supervision
• Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills

Evaluation and Determination of Eruption Potential of Philippine Volcanoes (EDEPPV) Project
Contract Duration:
February – June 2021 (can be renewed if performance is at least satisfactory)
Job description:
• Responsible for collating all available volcano geologic data from various sources; cataloguing, archiving these data into the Volcano Information Database, updating the database with new (if any) volcano geologic information
• Responsible for digitizing existing geologic maps of all volcanoes in the Philippines; other related tasks include converting paper maps into digital form and georeferencing the scanned map after into a user-defined coordinate system and projection
• May be required to perform initial/ preliminary desktop interpretation of various volcano geologic deposits
• Provide fieldwork assistance such as volcanic deposit mapping stratigraphic logging, river channel observation (for lahar assessment), collecting samples (rock, charcoal, water, etc.) if necessary
• Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time, especially during volcano-related emergencies
Educational background
• Graduate of BS Geology or any related courses are encouraged to apply
