(2) Science Research Assistant

 

Brief Description of the Position

Reports directly to STDM Section Head;

Analyze digital seismograms to determine phase arrivals and earthquake source parameters;

Perform limited monitoring duties in a rotating capacity especially during significant earthquakes, tsunami events and other related emergencies;

Refinement of data processing and analysis techniques;

Perform quality control and curation of earthquake and tsunami data catalogue and other related databases;

Occasionally assist with maintenance of seismic monitoring instruments;

Assist in the preparation of technical reports;

Assit in information services to stakeholders;

Participate in R&D projects and emergency activites;

Perform other duties assigned

Position Title

Gathers and compiles earthquake-and-tsunami-related data and assists in its interpretation and analyses;

Generates sufficient data for forecasting of volcanic eruptions and earthquake;

Mitigates hazards of volcanic activities through appropriate detection, forecast and warning system;

Assist in the design, modification and fabrication of monitoring insturments, accessories and other necessary modules;

Participates in the daily monitoring of earthquake and tsunami;

Deals with the conscientious handling, processing and provision of information for earthquake and tsunami monitoring, warning advisory;

Writes technical data and activity reports submitted to direct supervisor;

Willing and fit to travel and be permanently assignes in any area in the Philippines;

Perform other duties assigned

Operates, maintains and repairs earthquake and sea-level monitoring instruments and data transmission systems;

Assists in the design, modification and fabrication of monitoring instruments, accessories and other necessary modules;

Participates in the daily monitoring of earthquake and tsunami;

Deals with the conscientious handling, processing and provision of information for earthquake and tsunami monitoring, warning and advisory;

Writes technical data and activity reports submitted to direct supervisor;

Willing and fit to travel and be permanently assignes in any area in the Philippines;

Perform other duties assigned
