(1) Senior Science Research Specialist
Brief Description of the Position
Develops initiatives geared towards a better understanding of geological processes using optical and RADAR (interferometry) applications and other RS data, methods and technologies;
Drives continuous innovations in the RS/GIS R&D unit of the Geomatics & HAS Section;
Collaborates with internal (PHIVOLCS) and external stakeholders (e.g. Mines and Geosciences Bureau, PAGASA, international organizations) in the analyses of RS in relation to geological and hydro-meteorological processes; drives advancements in the exploration of technologies and creation of higher-value research, maps and other outputs using remote sensing;
Verifies Hazard Assessment Reports and assists in the provision of geological inputs and geological interpretations necessary for accurate assessments and efficient delivery of hazard assessment services;
Ensures that RS outputs are utilized by the GeoRiskPH platforms, by other research in PHIVOLCS, and if applicable, by other entities in the PRIMA program for efficient hazard and risk assessments;
Project Manager or may assist event Project Manager when Charter for RS acquisitions is activated;
Conducts fieldworks and lectures to enable other researchers to operate innovations in RS;
Publishes papers in peer-reviewed journals;
Performs other functions as may be assigned

Position Title

Brief Description of the Position
Participates in the conduct of volcano research initiatives of the section;
Conduct collection and collation of primary and secondary data related to the volcano research;
Conducts field data gathering including geologic mapping, sampling, monitoring of river channel morphology using drone and kinematic surveys;
Conducts sample preparation, laboratory processing and analysis volcanic samples;
Performs desktop interpretation of various volcano geologic deposits and qualitative hazard zones;
Performs quantitative volcanic hazards analyses and modelling, including risk research and assessment;
Prepares administrative papers; Writes technical reports;
Attends internal and external engangements/ trainings/ meetings;
Perform other duties assigned
