Project description:  

The PHIVOLCS-funded project Development of Early Warning Systems for Landslides, also known as the DYNASLOPE Project, is a multidisciplinary endeavor addressing the problem of landslide risk. The project is composed of instrumentation engineers, software engineers, civil engineers, geologists, social scientists, and community developers working together towards the development of a community-based early warning system for landslides.

Position Title and Job Description:  

One (1) Science Research Specialist II

 

Monthly Salary: 40,301.00

 

    • Job description
      • Conduct research pertaining to community development strategies in development of Early Warning System for landslides.
      • Design and facilitate community development strategies to partner communities and LGUs
      • Conduct fieldwork related to implementation of early warning system protocol.
      • Formulate designs and reports with people-centered-early warning system,  disaster risk reduction,  climate change adaptation frameworks and gender lens. 
      • Facilitate EWS-L monitoring and reporting to pertinent stakeholders. 
      • Coordinate project concerns and logistics with the community and other relevant stakeholders 
      • Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project.
      • Accomplish administrative documents related to the project such as pre- and post fieldwork requirements and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) requirements
    • Educational background
      • Bachelor's degree in education, community development, communications, public administration or related social science fields
    • Work experience
      • Two years experience relevant to the job.
      • at least two (2) years experience in conducting seminars for grassroots communities on topics related to landslides or DRRM work; 
      • Preferably, with at least one (1) year work experience as team leader; demonstrate good seminar ­facilitation skills; demonstrate good communication skills, both in English and Filipino; additional local language/s is/are preferred.
      • Experience working in any research institution is a plus.
    • Required skills and qualities
      • Proficiency in common office applications
      • Knowledgeable in DRRM, CCA 
      • Experience working with LGUs and vulnerable sectors
      • Can and willing to render monitoring work even at nights, weekends, or holidays
      • Can and willing to go to long field work

Four (4) Science Research Specialist II

 

Monthly Salary: 40,301.00

 

    • Job description
      • Conduct field surveys
      • Conduct quick-response surveys 
      • Create reports, documentation, technical papers related to team outputs 
      • Conduct research related to landslide scenario
      • Assist in the conduct of seminars and consultations
      • Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project
      • Accomplish administrative documents related to the project such as pre- and post fieldwork requirements and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) requirements
      • Conduct work related to the implementation of early warning system protocol
    • Educational background
      • At least a Bachelor's degree in geology or civil engineering
    • Work experience
      • Preferably, licensed professional
      • At least one (1) year experience in relevant field, preferably in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering
      • Preferably, with at least one (1) year experience in landslide mapping, monitoring and early warning
    • Required skills and qualities
      • Knowledgeable and skilled in GIS applications, field­-based landslide investigations
      • Knowledgeable and skilled in geologic mapping or in  basic slope stability analysis
      • Can and willing to go on long fieldworks and frequent fieldworks
      • Can and willing to conduct fieldwork in difficult terrain
      • Has good report/research writing skills
      • Can and willing to render monitoring work even at nights, weekends, or holidays

    • Job description
      • Conduct research related to the social component of the program (e.g. risk analysis)
      • Conduct data gathering and capacity building efforts with the community (participatory research data gathering, development of IEC materials, training of community representatives, etc.); 
      • Coordinate with the community, LGU and other stakeholders regarding concerns of the project (fieldwork logistics, official meetings and seminars with the LGU, schedule of activities, etc.); 
      • Create reports, documentation, technical and research papers related to team outputs; 
      • Accomplish administrative documents related to the project such as pre- and post fieldwork requirements and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) requirements
      • Conduct work related to the implementation of early warning system protocol
    • Educational background
      • Bachelor's degree in education, community development, communications, public administration or related social science fields
    • Work experience
      • At least  two (2) years experience in conducting seminars for grassroots communities on topics related to landslides or DRRM work
      • At least one (1) year experience in participatory research (preferably in DRRM work)
    • Required skills and qualities
      • Demonstrate good seminar ­facilitation skills
      • Demonstrate good research writing skills
      • Proficiency in common office applications
      • Knowledgeable in DRRM and CCA, 
      • Preferably knowledgeable in risk perception studies 
      • Preferably with background on gender and development (GAD)
      • Experience working with LGUs and vulnerable sectors
      • Demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in community-­based work 
      • Demonstrate good communication skills, both in English and Filipino

      • Accomplish administrative documents related to the project such as pre- and post fieldwork requirements and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) requirements
      • Conduct work related to the implementation of early warning system protocol
    • Educational background
      • BS Geology, Civil Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Math, or related field
    • Work experience
      • Preferably, licensed professional, if applicable to the profession
      • Preferably with at least one (1) year of programming­-related work
    • Required skills and qualities
      • Knowledgeable and skilled in, or at least can easily adapt to, Python­-based computer programming;
      • Demonstrate good math-­based problem ­solving and analytical skills

    • Conduct information system design research for community based early warning system 
      • Elicit requirements from stakeholder
      • Assist in transforming gathered requirements into human-centered design
    • Conduct EWS-L information system testing and verification with internal and external stakeholders
    • Formulate integrated EWS-L operation manuals 
    • Accomplish administrative documents related to the project; Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project.
    • Work related to implementation of early warning system protocol
  • Educational background
    • Bachelor's degree in education (preferably major in educational technology), communications (preferably major in educational communication), sociology, psychology (with specialization in developmental psychology and/or cognition), industrial engineering, information science, computer science, or related social science fields
  • Work experience
    • One year experience relevant to the job.
    • At least one (1) year experience in research on community information science, social movements, socio-technical sciences, and community information science 
    • Experience in conducting seminars for grassroots communities on topics related to landslides or DRRM work is a plus
  • Required skills and qualities
    • Proficiency in common office applications
    • Basic skills in human-centered design or interface design is a plus
