Despite the ongoing pandemic, DOST-PHIVOLCS is once again strongly advocating for earthquake and tsunami preparedness efforts. That’s why the Institute will be conducting a kick-off webinar called “Consultation eWorkshop for a Harmonized Program on Tsunami DRR” or Tsunami Summit 2020 on October 1.

DOST-PHIVOLCS will launch the month-long online consultation for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) offices in Mindanao. The webinar will serve as an orientation, as well as a platform for the participants to impart and strengthen their efforts towards mitigating the risks of tsunamis.
The annual Tsunami Summit was first held in August 2019 as a tsunami consultation workshop open to all DRRM offices in the country. This year, DOST-PHIVOLCS is looking to hold the activities online to look at the different local and regional Tsunami DRR initiatives. In this case, for regions in Mindanao that are prone to tsunami coming from the Philippine Trench, Sulu Trench and Cotabato Trench.
The webinar and its following consultations will be done fully online. Only participants who have registered will be provided access to the Zoom meeting.
In relation to Tsunami preparedness efforts, the public is also encouraged to take part in the World Tsunami Day (WTAD) annually on November 5.
