The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) continuously advocates gender equality and women empowerment, especially in the workplace. In line with this, the GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) Technical Working Group held last 7-8 January 2021 a two-part webinar on the Development of GAD Database.
The webinar, held via Zoom, aimed to strengthen the understanding of GAD basic concepts, and gender analysis. The resource person, a consultant and member of the Philippine Commission on Women’s National Gender Resource Pool, talked about the root cause of gender biases, definitions, and common examples of gender issues, and principles of gender analysis on the first day. She then discussed the RA 9710 - Magna Carta of Women and described the steps in developing a sex-disaggregated data (SDD)/GAD Database on the second day.
The initial step in building the PHIVOLCS GAD Database is to determine how the data from previously implemented and existing projects contribute in the development of PHIVOLCS GAD Database on both internal and external stakeholders. With a better appreciation of the importance of SDD in identifying GAD issues as inputs to project programming, it was agreed that all project leaders will review data as well as their project implementation plans. There were around 72 participants who are executive management members, program owners, and project leaders since the goal of the activity is to mainstream GAD in the Institute’s policies, programs, projects, and activities. A learning evaluation was conducted at the end of the webinar.
