Scientists and technical personnel of DOST-PHIVOLCS recently completed a training webinar on advanced topics in Volcano Seismology given by the USGS-VDAP between 5 and 13 October 2021. Drawing from their well-respected work at the Cascades, Alaskan and Hawaiian Volcano Observatories as well as with other volcano observatories in other parts of the world, USGS-VDAP experts discussed the fundamental concepts, techniques and applications of specialized seismic and infrasound analyses for understanding volcanic unrest. The training was requested by DOST-PHIVOLCS for the purpose of improving its mission-critical volcano monitoring services through knowledge-bridging, partnering and technical capacity-building.
This activity was the most recent in the 30 years of cooperation between DOST-PHIVOLCS and the USGS-VDAP that was forged by the 1991 eruption of Pinatubo Volcano. Then and now, collaboration was and continues to be supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
DOST-PHIVOLCS extends its deepest gratitude to the USGS-VDAP and USAID and looks forward to the next chapter of this valued and lasting partnership.
