The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) will take part in the observance of the World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) on 5 November 2021. In preparation for WTAD, the Institute implemented initiatives that aim to open discussions on tsunami readiness in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On November 5 2021, DOST-PHIVOLCS will hold the InfoSentro sa PHIVOLCS where key speakers will talk about the Institute’s Tsunami Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Initiatives. One of these initiatives is the Tsunami Preparedness and Response Planning of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Metro Manila conducted in partnership with DOST-National Capital Region (NCR). DOST-PHIVOLCS will also present the highlights of the Consultation eWorkshop for a Harmonized Program on Tsunami DRR held on 5-7 October 2021. Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) representatives and other DRR practitioners nationwide were gathered for a workshop facilitated by PHIVOLCS experts. The Department of the Internal and Local Government (DILG) will discuss the development of the Listong Pamayanan Tsunami Toolkit, an initiative assisted by DOST-PHIVOLCS which can guide the local government in carrying out disaster preparedness at the grassroots level.
DOST-PHIVOLCS encourages the public to join the WTAD culminating event on 5 November 2021 at 9:30 AM by registering here (tinyurl.com/WTADNov5) to receive the Zoom Meeting details. The event will be live-streamed via facebook.com/PHIVOLCS.
