A one-day pre-training orientation was conducted before the training proper, July 17 for Batch 1 and July 27 for Batch 2.  The orientation covered the installation of the REDAS Software, SQLite, and Quantum GIS software. The training house rules and guidelines were also discussed as well as answering the required online training forms. The training proper covered topics on the Introduction to REDAS Software, Basic Features of REDAS, Basic Map Reading, Digitizing and Annotating in REDAS, Earthquake Catalogue, Seismic Hazard Assessment, Earthquake Hazards, and Volcanic Hazards. Familiarization with the Earthquake and Tsunami Alerting Tool (ETAM) was also taught during the training.

In addition, a demonstration on how to convert shapefile to REDAS plot file as well as an overview of the GeoRiskPH Analytical Platforms such as HazardHunterPH and GeoAnalyticsPH were also presented as requested by the participants.  For GeoRiskPH lectures, these were provided by Harold Tabuzo and Hanz Alejandria.

The participants were required to submit their outputs during the Earthquake Catalogue and Seismic Hazard Assessment exercises. Outputs were presented and discussed during the last day of the training.   Figure 3 shows a sample hands-on exercise result for a ground shaking simulation of a local fault in Zamboanga Sibugay done by one of the training participants.

The participants showed enthusiasm and were actively responding during the training. According to them, they gained new knowledge in hazard mapping and assessment using REDAS software and its mapping tools features, which they can use in their future plans and projects of their respective LGUs. Although their patience was tested due to inevitable issues on unstable internet connection, they were appreciative to be part of the first virtual REDAS training despite the limitations brought by the current pandemic.
