PHIVOLCS held a three-day training for the Cebu City Local Government unit on how to develop their exposure database using REDAS Exposure Database Mapper (EDM) tool.  The training and actual survey was conducted from August 14 – 16, 2019 at Capitol Site, Cebu City. The main goal of the training is to capacitate the local government unit in developing their own exposure database.  This is as part of the main strategies of the Exposure Data Development and Severe Wind Risk Assessment for Cebu City Project, a two-year DOST GIA project that aims to develop exposure database of Cebu City for severe wind risk assessment.  This project is in partnership with PAGASA and the UP Diliman- Institute of Civil Engineering (UPD-ICE)

Through the course of the training, the enumerators were familiarized with the REDAS Exposure Data Mapper (EDM) as a tool for collecting exposure data which will can be used for impact and risk assessment. A total of 34 participants graduated from the training.

Two pilot barangays were chosen for the survey, namely Barangay Capitol Site and Barangay Camputhaw. Initially, the participants were given an orientation and introduction about the REDAS Software, Building Typology, the Installation and Usage of  REDAS EDM using Geomapper.  Before the surveys were done, the attributes in the original EDM tool in consultation with UPD ICE were upgraded to include questions related to severe wind hazard.  During the training, the participants were taught how to answer the questionnaire.  Two barangays were surveyed: Barangay Capitol Site and Barangay Camputhaw.  A total of 555 surveyed buildings was accomplished.  A demonstration study of severe wind impact computation using PSA data was shown by PHIVOLCS and the city was introduced how they can manage and store their data. The way forward was also discussed with each group (academe, PHIVOLCS and Cebu City LGU) taking particular responsibilities on which barangays to survey during the following months.

The speakers and facilitators included are: Bartolome C. Bautista, Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Robinson Jorgio, Arianne Gail Rivera, Bhenz Rodriguez, Lawrence Aaron C. Bañes, Clint Drexel M.
