Project description:
The PHIVOLCS-funded project Development of Early Warning Systems for Landslides, also known as the DYNASLOPE Project, is a multidisciplinary endeavor addressing the problem of landslide risk. The project is composed of instrumentation engineers, software engineers, civil engineers, geologists, social scientists, and community development workers working together towards the development of a community-based early warning system for landslides (CBEWS-L).

Employment status:
Contract of Services under PHIVOLCS locally-funded project


Contract Duration:
February to June 2023 (may be renewed if performance is satisfactory)


Monthly Salary:
PhP 47,606.00 (no benefits, allowances, hazard pay, etc; with per diem during fieldwork)
Work arrangement includes monitoring work


Position Title and Job Description:
One (1) Project Technical Specialist I under Landslide Risk Awareness & Preparedness Group

 

Job description
● Conduct research (both process and output) pertaining to the implementation of CBEWS-L in the context of people-centered early warning systems (PEWS) and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM);
● Conduct relevant activities related to mainstreaming for the institutionalization of CBEWS-L
● Facilitate and co-lead capacity building activities related to PEWS, response capability, gender & inclusivity, governance & institutionalization, and organization development with the community and other relevant stakeholders;
● Coordinate activities and output with the teams pertaining to capacity building initiatives, PEWS, and CBEWS-L;
● Develop and update of learning materials;
● Conduct relevant capacity building activities related to implementation of CBEWS-L;
● Conduct pre-­ and post­-fieldwork administrative tasks;
● Conduct work related to implementation of early warning system protocol;
● Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole Project;
● Conduct pre­ and post ­fieldwork administrative tasks;
● Submit necessary individual/team/group documents to MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning) Team; and,
● Perform other duties that may be required by the Project.

 

Educational background
● Bachelor's degree in community development, education, communications, public administration, or any related fields

 

Work Experience
● Two (2) years experience relevant to the job;
● At least two (2) years experience in conducting community organizing and education for grassroots communities on topics related to landslides or DRRM;
● Two (2) years research experience;
● Experience working in any research institution is a plus.


Required skills and qualities
● Knowledgeable in community organizing, education, and mobilization, DRRM, climate change adaptation (CCA), and early warning systems, and inclusive development;
● Demonstrate good facilitation skills in training and participatory processes; demonstrates good communication skills, both in English and Filipino; additional local language/s is a plus;
● Experience in working with communities and vulnerable sectors and local government units;
● Excellent writing skills both in English and Filipino;
● Proficiency in MS Office and internet applications;
● Can and willing to render monitoring work even at nights, weekends, or holidays;
● Can and willing to go on long field work.
