PHIVOLCS conducted a three-day training for the Local Government Unit of Echague in Isabela entitled, “Exposure Database Survey using REDAS-EDM using android devices for Echague, Isabela” last September 20-22, 2016 at the NIA Training Center, Echague, Isabela.  The training was conducted upon the request of Echague to PHIVOLCS. The training aims to 1) teach the participants how to use REDAS-EDM for Android, an application developed by PHIVOLCS that serves as an exposure data gathering tool and 2) to build the capacity of Echague officials and staffs on how to develop their Exposure Database.

The training was attended by 27 participants (three from MPDC, seven from MDRRMO and 17 from other departments). Two representatives from the Isabela State University helped in facilitating during the training while two others served as secretariat.

The first day of the training was dedicated to lectures on an introduction to the REDAS software, introduction to EDM, classification of UPD-ICE building types in the Philippines, installation of the REDAS–EDM for Android and how to use the tool. The REDAS facilitators gave a demonstration on how to use the tool when the participants were asked to survey sample buildings. REDAS-EDM version 2.2, which is the latest version of the tool, was installed on the android devices of the participants.

The succeeding days were dedicated to the actual survey of selected barangays in Echague. The three barangays that were surveyed are: Barangay Villa Victoria, Barangay San Antonio Ugad and Barangay Silauan Sur. A total of 334building were surveyed during the one and a half day survey period.

Preliminary results of the impact risk assessment from the REDAS software using NSO and survey consolidated data were performed by PHIVOLCS and presented to the LGU. As part of their commitment to continue building their exposure database, the LGU of Echague plans to purchase additional android devices for each department. For the EDM survey of the remaining barangays, Echague is planning to coordinate with the barangays through their “Ugnayan sa Barangay” Program which will engage the barangay officials during the survey of their respective barangays. The EDM survey is planned to start in October 2016 aiming to finish the whole Echague in 79 days. To further improve their technical knowledge about REDAS, Echague intends to attend a REDAS Training in the future.

Speakers and facilitators of the training were Deputy Director Bartolome C. Bautista, Maria Leonila P. Bautista, Johnlery Deximo, Dave Andrei Rivera, Greggue Ann Lyza Castro, John Ted Sison and Norberto Salili. Photo below shows PHIVOLCS facilitators led by Dr. B.C.
