University Research Associate (SG-12)
Project Title: Investigation and Numerical Modeling of Philippine Tsunamis Based on Historical, Geomorphological, and Geological Evidence of Past Earthquakes.
Project Background:
The trench systems surrounding the Philippine archipelago such as the Manila Trench, Sulu-Negros-Cotabato Trenches, and the Philippine Trench are important generators of tsunamigenic earthquakes. Historical and probable future offshore fault rupture scenarios with their associated tsunamis will be estimated using geological, geomorphological, and geophysical data. Tsunami characteristics will be modeled using JAGURS, a numerical code that computes tsunami propagation and inundation. The research project will be implemented by the University of the Philippines (National
Institute of Geological Sciences) and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, in collaboration with the University of Tokyo (Earthquake Research Institute), Doshisha University, Tohoku University, Tokushima University, and Tokyo Metropolitan University.
Application is open to all individuals who are interested in tsunami research. The DOST Funded project seeks to better understand Philippine Tsunamis through field-based geological data and numerical modelling.
