Two (2) Project Science Research Specialists II (SRS II) and Two (2) Senior Science Research Specialists (Senior SRS)
The Project
The PHIVOLCS-funded project Development of Early Warning Systems for Landslides, also known as the DYNASLOPE Project, is a multidisciplinary endeavor addressing the problem of landslide risk. The project is composed of instrumentation engineers, software engineers, civil engineers, geologists, social scientists, and community developers working together towards a unified goal.
The Vacancy
The project is in need of (2) SRS II and (2) Senior SRS that will significantly contribute to the project’s research and capacity building efforts. Project contract is 5 months (February – June 2018).
Job Description
a.SRS II (A)
i.Conduct research on participatory information system design for early warning systems
ii.Assist research efforts related to disaster risk reduction and management initiatives for communities at risk of landslides
iii.Conduct capacity building activities (trainings, seminars, workshops) with the community and other relevant stakeholders
b.SRS II (B)
i.Conduct research on alert system protocols for early warning systems
ii.Assist research efforts related to disaster risk reduction and management initiatives for communities at risk of landslides
iii.Conduct capacity building activities (trainings, seminars, workshops) with the community and other relevant stakeholders
c.Senior SRS (A and B)
i.Conduct research pertaining to one of the major outputs of the project (Risk assessment methods, early warning system information system and organizational frameworks, project strategic communications, project monitoring and evaluation)
ii.Assist research efforts related to disaster risk reduction and management initiatives for communities at risk of landslides
iii.Conduct capacity building activities (trainings, seminars, workshops) with the community and other relevant stakeholders
iv.Manage and lead (both process and output development) a research group, ensuring research and intervention outputs are delivered satisfactorily and on time
v.Coordinate activities and outputs with the project’s overall management team
d.Senior SRS and SRS II
i.Conduct work related to the implementation of the landslide early warning system, including monitoring duties which may cover weekends, night shifts, and holidays
ii.Coordinate project concerns and logistics with the community and other relevant stakeholders
iii.Accomplish administrative documents related to the project
iv.Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project
Eligibility
a.Educational background
i.Graduate of any social science related course
ii.Units related in disaster risk reduction and related topics is a plus
b.Work experience
i.General
1.At least (1) year experience in doing full blown research studies
2.At least (1) Experience in fieldwork and/or stakeholder engagement
ii.SRS II (A)
1.At least (1) year experience in user interface and user experience design projects
iii.SRS II (B)
1.At least (1) year experience in disaster risk reduction work
iv.Senior SRS (A and B)
1.At least (2) years of disaster risk reduction work.
2.At least (1) year experience in at least (2) of the following is a plus:
a.Development and implementation of risk assessment methods
b.People-centered early warning system design and implementation
c.Strategic communications for DRR projects
d.Monitoring and evaluation of DRR projects
c.Key skills capacities
i.Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research frameworks and methodologies
ii.Proficiency with common office applications
iii.Knowledge in quantitative and qualitative research digital tools is a plus
d.Work environment
i.Can and willing to go on long and frequent fieldworks
ii.Can and willing to work on weekends, night shifts, and holidays
iii.Can work well with a team, but still be able to contribute individual accomplishment
iv.Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills both with the members of the project, as well as external stakeholders of the project
