The Project
The PHIVOLCS-funded project Development of Early Warning Systems for Landslides, also known as the DYNASLOPE Project, is a multidisciplinary endeavor addressing the problem of landslide risk. The project is composed of instrumentation engineers, software engineers, civil engineers, geologists, social scientists, and community developers working together towards a unified goal.
The Vacancy
The project is in need of (1) Senior SRS that will significantly contribute to the project’s research and capacity building efforts. Project contract is 5 months (February – June 2018).
Job Description
a.Project Work (weekday shifts, might involve fieldwork)
i.Develop datalogger systems based on arduino and raspberry pi modules
ii.Interface datalogger systems to landslide sensors
iii.Develop surficial based sensors based on ranging systems
iv.Manage sensor and datalogger database systems
v.Conduct deployment and maintenance fieldworks
b.Operations work (possibly weeknights, weekend, and holiday shifts)
i.Conduct work related to the implementation of the landslide early warning system
ii.Coordinate project concerns and logistics with the community and other relevant stakeholders
c.Administrative work
i.Accomplish administrative documents related to the project
ii.Participate to meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project
Eligibility
a.Educational background
i.Graduate of any course related to electrical, electronics, and/or computer engineering
ii.Graduate of any course related to physics, applied physics, or any course with instrumentation unitsWork experience
b.Work experience
i.At least (1) year experience in doing embedded systems design
ii.At least (1) project done with the following systems: Arduino, PIC, Raspberry Pi, GSM communications, XBee communications
c.Key skills capacities
i.Proficiency in the following programming languages: C, Python, MySQL
ii.Proficiency in embedded electronics design
iii.Proficiency in using equipment such as oscilloscope, signal analysers, bench multimeters
d.Work environment
i.Can and willing to go on long and frequent fieldworks
ii.Can and willing to work on weekends, night shifts, and holidays
iii.Can work well with a team, but still be able to contribute individual accomplishments
iv.Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills both with the members of the project, as well as external stakeholders of the project
