Project description:

The PHIVOLCS-funded project Development of Early Warning Systems for Landslides, also known as the DYNASLOPE Project, is a multidisciplinary endeavor addressing the problem of landslide risk. The project is composed of instrumentation engineers, software engineers, civil engineers, geologists, social scientists, and community developers working together towards the development of a community-based early warning system for landslides.

 

Employment status:

Contract of Services under PHIVOLCS locally-funded project

 

Contract Duration:

February to June 2026 (may be renewed if performance is satisfactory)

 

Monthly Salary:

PhP 45,694.00 + premium

 

Position Title and Job Description:

One (1) Project Technical Specialist I under the Thresholds and Operations Team

 

Job description

● Develop tools related to the implementation, evaluation, and refinement of protocol of the early warning system operations;
● Maintain and update early warning system monitoring and analysis tools in coordination with other technical teams;
● Monitor system performance, identify bugs, and implement fixes to ensure reliable operations;
● Provide technical support for monitoring operations and protocol-related inquiries;
● Formulate integrated early warning system operations protocol manuals;
● Conduct research related to sensor data monitoring, analysis, and threshold evaluation;
● Develop and improve methods for landslide threshold computation with implementation as the end goal;
● Support or provide capacity-building activities, orientations, and trainings related to monitoring operations and protocols;
● Support or provide data provision and documentation for research and external stakeholders;
● Conduct pre- and post- fieldwork administrative tasks;
● Submit necessary individual/team/group documents to MEAL;
● Participate in meetings and workshops facilitated for the whole project;
● Perform other duties that may be required by the project.

 

Educational background

● BS Applied Physics, BS Physics, BS Computer Science, BS Math, BS Stat, BS Library Science, BS Geology, or any science-related course

 

Required skills and qualities

● Demonstrate good math-based problem-solving and analytical skills;
● Critical thinker and meticulous with details;
● At least one (1) year of programming-related experience (preferred);
● Knowledgeable in Python for data analysis, scripting, and tool development;
● Knowledgeable in MySQL for database querying, management, and data handling;
● Familiarity with Git;
● Preferably with knowledge in landslide thresholds research;
● Has good report/research writing skills
● Good communication skills and able to work effectively with team members, project members, and stakeholders;
● Willing to provide operational and technical support when required;
● Able to work independently while managing tasks and deadlines.
