One (1) Science Research Specialist I
Brief Description of the Position:
1. Conduct fieldwork such as field data gathering, volcanic deposit mapping, monitoring of river channel morphology using drone and kinematic surveys, among others;
2. Perform GIS-related tasks including digitization, image and topographic map interpretation, process and generate orthophoto images and digital elevation models (DEMs), etc.;
3. Conduct RPA field surveys;
4. Responsible for generation of maps and other GIS-related outputs using up-to-date geologic data and various modeling and remote sensing techniques for Philippine volcanoes;
5. Conduct further research on the applications of basic to intermediate programming language, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence/machine learning in volcano geologic mapping and hazards and risk assessment;
6. Process hazard and exposure input information for threat assessment, compilation of codes and perform model runs for quantitative modelling activities;
7. Collate available volcano geologic data from various sources as well as acquisition of rainfall and other hydrological data;
8. Conduct collection, compilation and digitization of primary and secondary data related to the qualitative and quantitative volcanic hazards research and assessment;
9. Write technical reports and prepare project-related administrative papers;
10. Attend internal and external engagements/trainings/meetings;
11. Perform other tasks/functions (may not be exclusively project/section related) as may be assigned from time to time, especially during times of emergencies.
