One (1) Science Research Specialist I

Brief Description of the Position:
1. To assist the Section Head of Seismic and Tsunami Network Operations (STNO) and the Division Chief of the Seismological Observation and Earthquake Prediction Division (SOEPD) in timely delivery of accurate Earthquake and Tsunami Information and Warning or Advisory.
2. To assist in the operation of all the stations of the Philippine Seismic Network (PSN) for timely issuance of accurate Earthquake Information (EQlnfo) likewise in the operation of the Philippine Tsunami Network (PTN) composed of Sea Level Monitoring Station (SLMS) for tsunami detection as the basis for issuance of advisory and/or warning and for activating the Community Tsunami Alerting Station {CTAS) for the coastal communities.
3. To assist the coordination works with all the Local Government Units (LGU) for earthquake and tsunami related matters and activities such as Information, Education and Communication campaigns, Workshops on Tsunami Evacuation, Earthquake Drills, Intensity Surveys and other activities/programs related to Earthquake and Tsunami Community Awareness.
4. To properly coordinate with three Cluster Centers and Mirror Station such as the PMCMCET, PVCMCET, and PTMS for the operation of respective stations within each cluster and Area of Responsibility (AOR).
5. To lead in earthquake and tsunami data acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation for quick inclusion of event parameters to timely issuance of accurate Earthquake (EQlnfo) and Tsunami Information.
6. To participate in the development and enhancement of system interface related to automation of the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
7. To participate in all improvement and station repair and rehabilitation projects of STNO.
8. To act a resource person and spokesperson when assigned by the Section Head, Division Chief and/or the lnstitute’s Top Management.
9. To participate in the continuous enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information, Advisory, Warning and even the Cancellation, and to further assist in the development and enhancement of necessary Work Instructions and Manuals for any system or interface added to Earthquake and Tsunami Network Operations.
10. Other works assigned by the SOEPD Chief and STNO Section Head related to issuance and operations including external meetings and field trips to any of the stations.

7. To facilitate the compilation of all issued Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
8. To assist in the development and enhancement of system interface related to automation of the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information including quick integration to the updated issuance of the initial information provided by the international partners such as the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), North West Pacific Tsunami Advisory Center (NWPTAC} and South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Center (SCSTAC).
9. To assist in all improvement and station repair and rehabilitation projects of the Section/Division.
10. To act a resource person and spokesperson when assigned by the Section H~ad, Division Chief and/or the lnstitute’s Top Management.
11. To participate in the continuous enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information, Advisory or Warning and in the enhancement of necessary Work Instructions and Manuals for any system or interface added to Earthquake and Tsunami Network Operations.
