Job Description:

  • To assist the Section Head of Seismic and Tsunami Network Operations (STNO) and the Division Chief of the Seismological Observation and Earthquake Prediction Division (SOEPD) in timely delivery of accurate Earthquake and Tsunami Information and Warning or Advisory.
  • To assist in the Operation and Maintenance of all the Stations of the Philippine Seismic Network (PSN) composed of 123 stations and the Philippine Tsunami Network (PTN) composed of 29 Sea Level Monitoring Station {SLMS) for tsunami detection and around 92 Community Tsunami Alerting Station (CTAS) but more focused on the operations of the PTN;
  • To assist in coordinating with the three Cluster Centers and Mirror Station such as the PVCMCET, PVCMCET, and PTMS for the maintenance of respective stations within each cluster and Area of Responsibility (AOR) in terms of operations and timely issuance of accurate Earthquake (EQlnfo) and Tsunami Information.
  • To participate in earthquake and tsunami data acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation for quick inclusion of event parameters to timely issuance of Earthquake (EQlnfo) and Tsunami Information.
  • To assist the coordination works with all the Local Government Units (LGU) for earthquake and tsunami related matters and activities such as (a) Information, Education and Communication campaigns, (b) Workshops on Tsunami Evacuation, (c) Earthquake Drills (d) Intensity Surveys, and (d) other activities and programs related to Earthquake and Tsunami Community Awareness
  • To assist in the compilation of all issued Earthquake and Tsunami Information.
  • To assist in the development and enhancement of system interface related to automation of the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information including quick integration to the updated issuance of the initial information provided by the international partners such as the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center {PTWC), North West Pacific Tsunami Advisory Center (NWPTAC) and South China Sea Tsunami Advisory Center (SCSTAC).
  • To assist in all the improvement and station repair and rehabilitation projects of the Division but more focused on Tsunami Stations.
  • To assist in the continuous enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures {SOP) for the issuance of Earthquake and Tsunami Information, Advisory, Warning and even the cancellation including assistance to the enhancement of necessary Work Instructions and Manuals for any system or interface added to Earthquake and Tsunami Network Operations.
  • To assist in in the conduct of IEC, establishment and installation of CTAS, integration of CTAS into Tsunami Early Warning (TeWS) of the Philippines and assistance to the Workshop on Tsunami Evacuation for Tsunami Evacuation Plans and Procedures of the coastal communities of the LGUs.
  • To assist in finalizing the Tsunami Evacuation Plans of the coastal LGUs.
    Other works assigned by the SOEPD Chief and STNO Section Head related to issuance and operations including external meetings, field trips to any of the stations and external engagement towards developing a Tsunami Ready Community.
