The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology with support from UNESCO-Jakarta and UNESCAPconducted a 1-day training on how to communicate tsunami hazards for elementary school teachers of Navotas and Malabon on 15 February 2011.
Forty four (41) invited participants representing every school in Malabon and Navotas attended this training. The training aimed to introduce how to use new teaching aids- Aaahh..Ngayon Alam ko na!!! and 11 Mga dapat gawin kapag may lindol as well as 2 supplementary reference materials Talahuluganan ng Tsunami (Tsunami Glossary adapted in Filipino) and Tsunami Teacher (interactive DVD). The teachers also had the opportunity to visit the PHIVOLCS Data Receiving Center and had first-hand look as to how earthquake monitoring is being done in the Philippines. /mlmvillegas
